For Adoptees

Adoptees aren't just welcomed here, this space was made for us. Part of our mission is to support and empower adopted people to speak up and be reminded that their voice, their story, and their wisdom are valuable and deserve to be centered in the conversations about adoption.

Coming Soon...

Over the past 6 months, we have been interviewing Asian Adoptees to learn more about our individual and collective experiences and ask the questions: who are we and what do Adoptees need? At the conclusion of our grant work, we will be launching the Minnesota Asian Adoptee Page to share the wisdom, insights, and resources our community has so generously offered up. Stay tuned!

We have concluded the interview portion of this grant. Over the past 6 months, Asian Adoptees assisted us in curating in the Minnesota Asian Adoptee Page, to be launched soon. Participants were all 18 years of age or older, identify as Asian and as an Adoptee, were adopted to Minnesota and/or are a current Minnesota resident, and completed a 60 minute interview regarding their adoption story.

*This is not legal advice or a replacement for mental health services or therapy. Recording or documentation of these meetings are strictly prohibited and there will be a moderator, but this is an open meeting and privacy cannot be guaranteed. This space for is for adoptees.

OUR MEETINGS HAVE CONCLUDED. Thank you to all of our participants for creating this space with us.

In light of what continues to happen here in Minnesota, we shared space every Saturday for nearly 2 months straight. All BIPOC international/intercountry adoptees were welcomed, with the focus being on those most impacted by raids, attacks, and state sanctioned violence here in Minnesota. This gathering was to offer support to one another surrounding fears and uncertainties of what it means to be an emigrant and immigrant, from and to countries not offering answers, safety, or acknowledgement.

Thank you again for all of your support, time, and energy.

With gratitude,

Lynn Woo Yeong

WEGAAD stands for the Women's Empowerment Group for Adoptees of the Asian Diaspora. This group is meant to hold space for Asian Adoptee women and femmes to connect, relate, empower, and celebrate who we are. While aspects are like a support group, the main goal is to inspire one another and have frank discussions about the challenges we face being Asian in Minnesota, being an adopted person, being an adult.
