After a brief break we returned in November to showcase more small businesses from the Midwest. Last month's Small Biz Saturday featured @plantedwithgrace.vintage founded in 2020 and based out of Winterset, Iowa.
"I started my business years ago unbeknownst to myself when I started collecting cool vintage and antique things from auctions estate sales, etc. When I was laid from from my job during the pandemic, I decided to open my own shop to
Owner Jen shares some of the challenges of owning and operating a small business.
"The most challenging part for me is creating my
own structure for the day. It's easy in this line of work to get distracted by a cool item or project, and sometimes you have to drop everything and make a run for something really great. Scheduling my days while still allowing for a random pick or two is a delicate balance."
"The most rewarding thing for me is when I get to see people get really excited about the items I find. I love being a foster mom for really unique, old items, and the best part is when they find their perfect new home."
Jen's advice or encouragement for others: "Follow what you are passionate about and invest in yourself. Most importantly, you deserve it!"
Exciting merch @plantedwithgrace.vintage
"I find new (old) items for you daily! I especially love finding things my customer's send me on the hunt for. I recently joined a new space in Des Moines' East Village called 509 City Vintage Market. We flip our space and open once a month for a new and fresh monthly vintage market. It's been such a cool opportunity and I love being able to meet so many of my customers!"
